Ryder Two Year Old Gelding 55

This gelding is one of 38 horses surrendered to LHRA in January 2013. Among the 38 horses there was a group of what looked like weanlings at the time. That group turned out to be yearlings - foals of 2012. The youngsters were emaciated and had not been handled at all.  With proper nutrition this gelding grew like a weed. He is huge in comparison to the others. He will need a home that can provide solid training and a foundation for success.

55 ("Sammy...as in Sammy Haggar's "I Can't Drive 55.") is very tall, and should continue to grow into a gorgeous horse. He is three in 2015 and is ready to go into a hands-on home where he can reach his potential. 55 is one of the more docile boys, quiet and reserved, but very sweet once he gets to know you!

**June 2015 update-Sammy is being treated for EPM with lots of loving care.  We hope and pray for the best outcome for this sweet guy.  His care may be sponsored here.

Sam is one of several Ryder horses to be a carrier of EPM.  All others have been treated and made full recoveries and we wish the same for him.  He is a very willing patient with the spirit and will to overcome.  At our foster farms we are fortunate not to have possum problems, but we are told that these guys came from a place that was overrun with possums, known carriers and transmitters of EPM.  A horse can carry EPM for years and have an episode.  EPM is not contagious from horse to horse, but it is present in possum feces.  The disease is treatable, thankfully, but it is an investment so we welcome donations to cover Sammy's care.
